The first set of toluene and methanol methylation unit successfully completed its industrial test run at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Company on December 27, 2012.

The results proved the technology’s feasibility and the high standards of the engineering design which enables the unit to operate stably at its full capacity and to achieve better-than-design technical indicators.

The success symbolized that Sinopec became the world's first owner of the toluene and methanol methylation proprietary technology and demonstrated the advantages of Sinopec’s R&D system and mechanism.

The successful development and application of the technology opened up new ways of the integrated utilization of petroleum and coal resources and effectively improved the self-sufficiency of xylene feedstock at Yangzi Petrochemical.
